Berlin (dts) - The CDU member of the Bundestag Philipp Amthor supports the new election proposal of his party leader Friedrich Merz. “Every additional day of traffic lights fuels disillusionment with politics,” he told broadcasters RTL and ntv on Monday.

According to the CDU politician, the Union has been calling on the traffic lights to make a U-turn for months, but the government seems to lack the strength to do so. “You get the impression that they can’t get their act together anymore. They muddle through.” The Chancellor in particular no longer has the necessary trust, said Amthor. “I see that this government is hopelessly divided, not just on one issue, but on a whole bundle of issues,” said the CDU member of the Bundestag and said: “They cannot continue like this, a policy change is needed in Germany, and that Better sooner than later.”

The Union is now ready to bring about such a policy change in Germany again. In the last federal election they suffered a “self-inflicted defeat”: “We were no longer good enough.” After this defeat, the CDU invested a lot of time and energy in order to find itself more strongly. With the new basic program, the CDU has a good agenda to go into the election campaign, said Amthor.
