Berlin (dts) – The federal states are demanding the introduction of a mandatory age limit for the sale of energy drinks. This is reported by “Bild” (Thursday edition).

The consumer protection ministers of the states are therefore asking the federal government to consider introducing the same approach as in other countries. A minimum age limit of 16 years is proposed, the newspaper quotes from the minutes of the most recent conference of consumer protection ministers.

The aim is to better protect the health of children and young people from harmful stimulants and sugar, the justification states. Federal Ministry of Food Cem Özdemir (Greens) welcomed the proposal. This is an "important topic," a spokesman told "Bild."
