Berlin (dts) - Bundestag Vice President Wolfgang Kubicki (FDP) sees the arrest of an employee of AfD top candidate Maximilian Krah for suspected espionage as evidence that the requested tightening of the rules for employees of members of the Bundestag is not necessary.

“The fact that the employee was exposed shows that there is obviously no regulatory deficit,” he told the “Editorial Network Germany”. “Under these conditions, I reject a corresponding tightening of the regulations for members of parliament.”

Although the allegations in the Krah case were “outrageous,” Kubicki added, the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, as the authority responsible for counterintelligence, “must take action without a separate request in order to prevent corresponding foreign influence.” If you now declare that the previous legal basis was not sufficient to guarantee this defense, then you would be giving this authority the worst possible report for its work to date.

Bundestag President Bärbel Bas (SPD) is currently having stricter rules examined. According to information from the RND, the responsible parliamentary security officers, who are members of parliament, will discuss this again on May 15th.
