Berlin (dts) - After the latest allegations of nepotism against two ministers of the traffic light coalition, representatives of the opposition in the Bundestag are demanding clarification from Federal Transport Minister Volker Wissing (FDP) and Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD).

Christian Görke, parliamentary director of the Left Party in the Bundestag, told the “Tagesspiegel”: “Favouritism damages people’s trust in the state. Especially at this time when democracy is being threatened by the right, those responsible are causing so much damage.” The left-wing politician continued and appealed to Wissing and his sense of honor Faeser: “You swore an oath as a minister. You break that when you make the state a prey for your favorites.”

The CDU/CSU parliamentary group in the Bundestag doubts the transport minister's professional suitability. Ulrich Lange, parliamentary group deputy of the CDU/CSU, said that this was the second case of nepotism in the BMDV. “Gradually, not only because of Wissing’s professional performance, but also because of his unreliability in dealing with taxpayers’ money, you have to ask yourself whether he has the right job,” the CSU politician told the “Tagesspiegel”.

Interior politician Andrea Lindholz (CSU) announced that the Union wants to put the events in the Federal Ministry of the Interior on the agenda of the Interior Committee. “Faeser must immediately make the affair surrounding her head of digitalization a top priority,” said the vice-chair of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group.

At the weekend it became known that a head of department in the Federal Ministry of Transport (BMDV) would continue to work at the federal party headquarters. At the same time, it was reported that a department head in the Federal Ministry of the Interior (BMI) is said to have awarded consulting contracts worth millions to an employee of the McKinsey company who was close to him.
