Berlin (dts) - North Rhine-Westphalia's Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst (CDU) accuses Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) of failure in the field of deportations. “It's crunching everywhere: it can't go on like this,” Wüst told “Stern”. “And the Chancellor is in no way living up to his own claim to deport on a large scale.”
“Not nearly enough migration agreements are being concluded that would make returns easier.” Wüst called for a debate about reception centers for refugees in third countries. “We know that migration pressure remains high and Germany remains an attractive destination. “That’s why we have to be open to such solutions,” he said, referring to Great Britain and Italy, which want to set up such reception centers in Rwanda and Albania, respectively.
“I understand the skepticism, but I ask the counter question: What if we don’t do that?” says Wüst. “A migration policy that ignores what is going on in our society puts the fuse on social cohesion.” Up to 5.000 refugees are currently coming to North Rhine-Westphalia alone every month. “The municipalities are at their limit.”
