Berlin (dts) - Berlin's Governing Mayor Kai Wegner (CDU) reiterated his call for a reform of the debt brake before the Union's Federal Council preliminary meeting on Thursday evening.

“My position is well known: I believe that a reform of the debt brake is urgently needed in order to ensure the necessary investments in the future,” Wegner told the “Editorial Network Germany”. Without such a reform, “the major challenges of our time, such as climate protection, cannot be met.”

Wegner was optimistic that he would be able to find broad support for a reform among his country colleagues. “I have a lot of discussions, including with the prime ministers, and promote the reform of the debt brake,” added the head of government. “There is great agreement and willingness in the countries to reform the debt brake for future investments.”
