Munich (dts) - After the US delivery of ATACMS missiles to Kiev, the head of the Munich Security Conference, Christoph Heusgen, asked Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) to reconsider his rejection of the delivery of Taurus cruise missiles. “In this context, the Chancellor’s decision not to deliver the Taurus missiles to Ukraine is becoming increasingly incomprehensible,” said Heusgen to the “Editorial Network Germany” (Saturday editions). “We are currently seeing how similar US weapons – the ATACMS – are having a major impact.”

Training Ukrainian soldiers on the Taurus system could have started long ago in order to put it into use without sending Bundeswehr soldiers. Instead, such a decision is waited for what feels like an eternity.

“In recent weeks, we Europeans have had to painfully realize that our arms deliveries to Ukraine are not enough to stop the brutal Russian aggression,” said Heusgen. “With a great show of strength, the US Congress succeeded in obtaining approval for massive arms aid.” However, questions arose as to whether the ongoing Russian aggression against Kiev and the long hesitation by the USA were not reason enough to rethink. Only if President Vladimir Putin becomes convinced that he cannot win this war will he engage in negotiations.
